APPEARANCE | Kakashi is a fair-skinned, fit and relatively tall shinobi. He has spiky white hair, and dark eyes with the left one having a small scar vertically over it. He wears his forehead protector tilted to the left to cover his scarred eye, and a mask which obscures the lower-half of his face.

He generally has a lazy expression, aloof manner, relaxed voice, and minimalist attitude. In serious situations, however, he is shown to have a very stern and intense look.

PERSONALITY | While originally strict and severe, Obito's death caused Kakashi to take on many of his former teammates personality traits. While he remained aloof and apathetic about most problems, and would forever be extremely private about his personal life, Kakashi relaxed and became much more carefree after Obito's death.

Kakashi generally jokes around, making bad puns, bad excuses, and sarcastic jokes at his comrades' expenses. He is almost always late to everything that isn't of severe importance, generally by at least an hour. This is because he spends large amounts of time staring at the memorial stone. Kakashi is generally lazy, cheerful, and as laid-back as possible. He is a great believer in teamwork because of Obito, and values his comrades despite what he has them believe. He remains blunt. Kakashi is very modest about his own abilities, although he does have confidence in them.

To paraphrase Kakashi's history.

Kakashi was born to the genius 'White Fang of Konoha' Hatake Sakumo. He showed great skill at a young age and graduated the Academy by the age of five. He was put on a team with Uchiha Obito and Nohara Rin, with Namikaze Minato, future Yondiame, as their jounin-sensei. He defeated Maito Gai in the chuunin exams the next year to become chuunin.

After his father fell into disgrace from choosing to saving his comrades over completing the mission, Kakashi began to harden and become more severe. After his father's suicide, Kakashi became a stickler of the rules, berating anyone who chose to break them, and had little in the way of personality. His life was controlled by the Ninja code.

During the Third Great Shinobi War, Kakashi, Rin, and Obito were tasked with destroying a bridge that was allowing Iwagakure shinobi to access the land of Fire. When Rin was captured, Kakashi decided to not follow in his father's footsteps and went to complete the mission instead. Obito stubbornly refused to let that happen, convincing Kakashi that his father was a hero. Kakashi, having doubts about his choice, followed Obito.

Obito became locked in a battle with an Iwagakure jounin, who could turn himself invisible. Kakashi moved in to help, but the jounin caught him by surprise and sliced him across the eye, destroying it. Obito unlocked his Sharingan, and killed the jounin. They proceeded to rescue Rin, but as they did, Iwa shinobi caused a cave in that resulted in Obito's death when he pushed Kakashi out of the way. As a 'belated birthday gift,' Obito gave Kakashi his remaining Sharingan, since his other half was crushed by the rock.

Kakashi later finished his Chidori, which was granted the name 'Raikiri' or 'Lightning Cutter,' which was said to have cut a lightning bolt in half.

On a later mission, Kakashi and Rin were ambushed by Kirigakure shinobi, who were trying to capture Rin. Kakashi, in a choice for the benefit for Konoha, killed Rin with his Raikiri, crying himself into unconsciousness while doing so.

Kakashi often visited both graves after the war, and would talk to his team like they were still alive. He was forbidden from fighting the Kyuubi when it attacked the village.

Over the years, Kakashi became well-known among all the Five Great Shinobi Countries for the extensive use of his Sharingan, gaining him a reputation as "the man who has copied over a thousand techniques", hence his nickname, 'Copycat Kakashi.' Kakashi eventually joined the Konoha ANBU, and also served as a mentor to Yamato whose codename was "Tenzō" at that time.

After Kakashi left ANBU, he became a Jounin-sensei, although he never passed a team because they never showed any teamwork. Until he encountered team 7. After each genin failed to get the bells by themselves, he initially was going to fail them until they broke his command to not feed Naruto. He passed them for valuing the team over the rules.
